I remember hearing that line from a couple of my high school teachers. The problem, of course, was that, from my earthly perspective, I was running out of time—at least if I wanted to remain legally in the U.S.

As I considered receiving training for pastoral ministry, I knew that I needed to go to college. But as God would have it, my first thought was to follow in my father’s footsteps and go to Bob Jones University. I even remember meeting one of their traveling musical ensembles. I can’t recall now whether they sent me a letter denying my application or called me. Either way, that dream was over. Pensacola Christian College had offered me a small scholarship, and though I knew little about the school at the time, I felt no burning in my bosom. Besides, who would want to live in Pensacola, FL—lol-ed the middle-aged man!
