What exactly is supposed to be built before a godly woman comes into the picture? Assuming a man who has stability, strength, courage, and a steady income, what else is lacking?
Also, aren't men and women supposed to build together, or is that exclusively in terms of the household?
Hey, brother, thanks for your support. The point I am making is not that a man must attain some mythical state of perfection before a woman enters the picture. The modern internet often treats marriage like a video game achievement: secure income, acquire property, optimize physique, build a platform, then finally unlock wife. That is not a biblical vision of marriage.
What I was pushing against in the article was the deeply suspicious and managerial posture some men adopt toward women, where marriage becomes less a covenant of mutual service and more a risk-management strategy. These men often speak as if a wife is an interruption to “the mission” rather than part of it.
I appreciate your thoughts on this subject because, well…I’m a female. I’ve definitely noticed the tone that you’re suggesting needs correction, and you articulate it well. I’m not going to bother engaging the keyboard warriors, but I thank you for doing so!
An observation I’d add is that in a society full of women who don’t know what a proper relationship to ANY authority looks like, and who haven’t experienced any proper Adam-esque male leadership from their father, there is a real tendency to think this bellicosity is the kind of noble gutsy energy they’d love to follow. There’s a whisper that if only their husband were more bellicose like their Favorite Podcast Pastor, they’d really have something to submit to. The false front of leadership-authority, that is pretty much a thin cover for fight picking, becomes the subject of covetous fantasy. This isn’t new. It’s why women’s ministries are fraught with issues. But having a parachurch women’s “ministry” of female followers to a some online pastor, is causing not a few problems out here in the pews.
MY CONCERN ABOUT YOUR POST BROTHER: I observe a bit of a "STRAW MAN FALACY HEAR," . . with a mingling of Truth and overstated & exaggerated error: QUOTE: "MUCH [ME: ??? - "some," not even most*] of the online masculine rhetoric of our age lacks fatherliness. Thanks for reading, Stan! And you are correct that it may be an overreaction. But I am speaking as a minister and observer. It's likely our contexts are different, but it does not invalidate my context and my pastoral assessment. Thanks again for taking the time to engage.

It's a fun word that is also thrilling to pronounce.

I'd like to get your perspective on the book "White Knights and Reviling Wives" by David Edgington.
