The Necessity of Titles in an Age of Incivility
This casualness or triviality among humans leads to a disregard for traditional titles and, inevitably, a loss of respect for authority roles in our culture.
This essay is a bit of background music to much of my thinking on restoring civilization or the practical ways, though often hidden, how to restore society to its Christian glory. Among the many postmillennial trajectories, one of the simplest ways to restore decency is by enlivening distinctly Christian etiquette to daily discourse among humans.
I've read many articles on the loss of civility in our culture, and the common refrain is the profound casualness in virtually every place. Were I to make a greater case for the restoration of proper decency, I would argue that our pronoun-saturated lunacy stems from the abandonment of mutual respect. When casualness is used on every occasion, we can begin to invent concepts of identity and self-created titles.
