When the CREC Took Over D.C. for Three Days

I am currently at the Miami airport, reflecting on the last couple of days in D.C., and it's hard to summarize the good things happening through the CREC.

I am currently at a Miami Airport lounge, and let me tell you, whatever the Cuban influence is here, it’s working. Outside of the Haneda airport lounge in Tokyo, which I have touted as the best airport lounge in the world, Miami is undoubtedly the best American Airlines lounge in the U.S. If you are going to be miserable for eight hours, you might as well do it here. These guys actually have an espresso machine with a double-shot. Gimme some black-eye coffee religion any day, especially as the last vestiges of strength are leaving. But enough with my elitist airport ramblings.

I am actually headed to Brazil to be with Theopolis founder and president, Peter Leithart, and the saints of Igreja Reformada de Cristo. The conference numbers seem to be fantastic. I am eager to offer a typological framework for the book of Jonah. I will be using some of my old material, but I will also add the thesis that Jonah is a new creation being played out, and that Jonah is a new Adam who reverts to the fallen world at times, but ultimately assumes his priestly collar at the end.

If things went as planned, I should be arriving right about now in Porto Alegre, but instead, I spent the night in Sinatra’s town and am now, ironically, in my home state of Florida before I leave for my old country.

But it’s my previous journey that I wish to elaborate upon, and thus the title of this Substack.

D.C. Talks

I have made several trips to the swamp over the last few years. Since my first invocation in #natcon Miami in 2022, I have been graciously invited back by Dr. Hazony for four consecutive years. Although I have been the unofficial Protestant chaplain of the National Conservatism conference, it seems to be the assumption among everyone, including the speakers, that I play the role on stage for at least six minutes every year. It’s wonderful to chat with the Orthodox Jews present. It’s also remarkable that they don’t seem antagonistic towards me at all. One would get the impression from X's ramblings that they would cannibalize my soul. But the fact is that they seem to welcome me with open arms every time. My Protestant invocations get more and more Calvinistic each year, so maybe there is a Jewish/Geneva conspiracy taking place.
